#leadershiptruth – You can’t drink half a cup of poison

Sometimes it doesn’t pay to be collaborative.

I don’t know about you, but every time I’ve waffled on a decision that I feel strongly about in my gut because people have told me to think with my head or softened my approach to appease the desires of peripheral stakeholders, I’ve suffered the consequences. Sometimes you just know what you need to do and by watering down your approach and making it too vanilla, it’s like drinking half a cup of poison – your idea is still going to die, but in a more slow and painful fashion.

I’ve learned that I’d rather live with the consequences of my own bad decisions fully executed than the watered-down solutions that I’ve been pressured into that I can’t fully get behind.

How do you balance other people’s input with your own strong convictions?
