People don’t see your intentions. They only see your actions. This is particularly important as you think about your leadership behaviours. You may not intend to create a culture where people don’t take accountability but if every time they come to you with a problem and you solve it, your behaviour is doing just that. When I hear leaders complain about their teams, the reality is often that their behaviours aren’t matching their intentions. Next time you find yourself frustrated with the results you’re getting, step back and reflect on what you’re doing that’s contributing to the outcome you’re getting. The best of intentions mean little. It’s actions that count.
