We all make mistakes. We all have moments when we feel like we could have done better. In my experience, being a leader is an ongoing lesson on ‘what I could do differently next time.’ What’s important is to not dwell and beat yourself up over your disappointments. Sure… take the time to reflect. See what learning you can extract from the situation, put that new insight into action and then… let it go. Now, letting go is easy to say but can be hard to do. If you find yourself ruminating on all the ways you could have ‘done better,’ try shifting your focus by making a list of all the things that went really well. Write down as much as you can and re-read the list a few times over. By inserting positive thoughts into your brain, you are actually taking small actions to rewire it with positivity which will help make your more resilient to the negative over time.
