I am truly awful at celebrating successes. It hit home with me last year at our Roundtable Recharge alumni event when my colleague Julie and I were standing at the back of the room watching our Roundtable members talking and laughing together. Julie leaned over and said ‘Isn’t this amazing?! You did this! You brought these people together.’ I really had to stop and let that soak in. I really did do this! Isn’t it amazing how other people often need to remind you of how far you’ve come? Most of the time, we are all so focused on where we’re trying to get to and kicking ourselves for all the things we still have to accomplish, that we forget to just stop and smell the roses. We dismiss our accomplishments as ‘just part of the job.’ Research shows that one of the keys to happiness is to take the time to reflect on how far we’ve come and what we’ve accomplished. It’s also a great way to reinforce and build your confidence. So what career roses do you want to stop and smell today?
