If you’re 35 and haven’t experienced a major career bummer yet, get the hell out of your comfort zone and go and fail at something. There is nothing worse than being ‘cursed’ with a comfortable, steady career path only to be hit with a major disappointment later on. You see, one of the biggest opportunities that disappointment and failure give us is to bounce back and build our resilience. I’ve seen a few too many gifted leaders that have never experienced career disappointment until they’re in their 40’s and 50’s. At this stage, it can be tough to bounce back when you’re so used to winning. So, if you’re early career, get out there and fail I say! It’s much better to build that resilience muscle now than years into your career when the sting of defeat is harder to bounce back from.
