Did you catch the cringe-worthy moment when Donald Trump made a public display of brushing dandruff off the suit of Emmanuel Macron in a room jammed with reporters? What was his intention in doing that? Embarrassment? Humiliation? An act of dominance? It certainly wasn’t a kind gesture and got me thinking that – as leaders – we need to clean up our own dandruff before dusting off someone else’s. According to Marshall Goldsmith, most leaders spend too much time judging other people. Next time you feel the need to point out somebody’s shortcomings (especially in public), ask yourself – is this kind? Is this necessary? Is this important? Maybe it is or maybe it’s just your ego getting in the way.
