When I think back over my career, some of my best learning experiences were when things went horribly wrong. When I ask any leader, they will tell me that they learn more from their failures than their successes. So if this is the case, why do so many of us rob others of the gift of failure? What are we accomplishing when we correct people by giving them the ‘right’ way to do things? Sure, you have to make sure the failures aren’t going to be catastrophic and, of course, you should provide your experience and train people to be successful, but resist the urge to step in on things that may cause challenges. Empowerment comes from learning how to manage ourselves when things don’t always go as planned. #leadershiptruth
