Over the past week, I’ve been reading numerous online tributes and posts about Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and his legacy. I’ve also found myself in several meetings this week, where the focus of our discussions has invariably turned to topic of continually crafting your job to play to your strengths. It’s a concept that lots of people want to buy into, and yet it seems to challenge most of us as to how we can make it happen. This quote from the highly quotable Steve Jobs might inspire those out there that have a burning passion to do what they love…
“Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”
If there’s one lesson that I take from Steve Jobs’ legacy it’s this… when you truly love what you do and do it without fear or expectations, you may be surprised by what you’re capable of achieving.
Steve was once quoted as saying that he wanted to “put a ding in the universe.” I think there’s little doubt that he did that… in our universe anyway.
RIP Steve Jobs.
